Summary Senior
Engineer with over 20 years in Product Development and Test.
Areas of experience include Digital/Analog HW, RF, and SFW development
primarily C and Assembler for various processors. Performed
board/device level bring-up, developed machine-to-machine communications
software, and System software. Participated in projects from
development of Requirements through Release, Maintenance, and root cause
analysis of problem reports on products in the field. Produced
Engineering and Production documentation for ISO-9000 environments targeted
for fellow engineers and CM test operators. Work Experience ___________________________ iTek
Services, Lake Forest, CA Computer
Hardware Engineer 5/2015 –
Present Designed the
software and hardware interface to a Arduino for an alarm system to a secure
room incorporating door and motion sensors, alarm output to IP based camera
and audio/visual alarm. Deploying OS images to Lenovo ThinkServers via a Fog
server for customer rollout into over 120 stores. Documenting
procedures. ___________________________ Boeing
Satellite Development Center, El Segundo, CA Contractor 2/2013 –
9/2014 Unit and
Module HW tests written in C and test scripts for NI-TestStand framework.
Architected multi-threaded DAQ software for 5 DAQ boards comprising136 analog
channels synchronized via a HW trigger initiated from software. Developed a
HW switch parser in C that translated a Windows OS INI file records to
program various Mfg switch cards. All software was maintained in SVN. ___________________________ Broadcom
Corp., Irvine, CA Sr. Staff
Test Engineer 1/2006 –
11/2012 Primary task
was handling NPI of WLAN/BT customer products with off shore factories.
Reduced BT testing time providing customer $2.5 M/yr savings. Developed
complete automated test line in VB for security FOB product. Security
FOB featured finger print sensor, ZigBee (802.15.4) and BT radios, and
near/far field RFID transducer. ___________________________ Boeing
Satellite Development Center, El Segundo, CA Contractor 2/2005 –
1/2006 Performed HW
design validation on MMIC module. Wrote a data collection program in VB
for GPIB data collection replacing an all-manual data collection process
reducing data collection time by over 90%. Built prototype HW for
analog RF signal path with MMIC as the front end and ADC output for module
level design verification. 4/2004 –
2/2005 Performed HW
board bring-up/debug testing on all system boards for Gimbal motor drive
system. Gimbal Drive system consisted of a MIL-1553 interface to
spacecraft, Servo H-bridge driver, stepper motor driver boards with a
redundant set of boards for backup. Added IEEE-754 floating-point
read/write functions to Win DLL used in validation testing of FPGA
co-processor. Recommended improvements to parts procurement process saving 2
days with each BOM updated. Interfaced with outside vendor supplying
module assembly and PCB services. ___________________________ Strix
Systems, Westlake Village, CA Manufacturing
Test Engineer 6/2003 – 3/2004 10/2001 – 6/2002, Developed
production test software for BT/WLAN AP. Test software handled initial
firmware loading/configuration/verification, module and full system testing.
Led effort in root cause analysis of low yields PCBA’s resulting in changes
at both PCBA assembly house and PCB vendor that improved 1st pass yields over 50%. ___________________________ Capstone Turbine Corp., Chatsworth, CA Sr. Software/Test Engineer 11/1999 – 2/2001 Created an firmware algorithm in C for management of micro-turbine
arrays to meet customers preset output power level demand. Algorithm
monitored micro-turbine array output power comparing it against a preset
threshold and available capacity of micro-turbines running and in standby.
When high demands occurred additional micro-turbines were brought on-line or
powered up as needed. Hysteresis was built in to prevent toggling
micro-turbines on and off-line when actual power demand equaled preset
threshold. Wrote tests for micro-turbine control system modules in C.
Control system modules included main motor controller, fuel valve assembly,
front panel, and battery controller. Due to low PCBA yields proposed
and started project to perform ICT testing on all PCBA’s. This project
produced increases in 1st pass
testing of over 80%. Project results led Engineering VP to mandate that all
new PCB designs included 100% coverage for ICT testing. Managed incoming
inspection of HW assemblies increasing 1st time
acceptance to over 70% on all electrical assemblies. ___________________________ ECI/Telematics
Intl, Inc., Calabasas, CA Firmware/Systems Test Engineer 8/1994 – 11/1999 Developed firmware tests in C/x86 asm for main product line capable of
handling multiple configurations replacing manual tests decreasing test time
over 70% per system. Led test effort for Calif. facility in BABT
certification to manufacture products for sale in UK market, approval was
granted on 1st examination. Developed engineering test setup
for validation of modem firmware using Dialogic interface cards and Telco CO
simulator. SFW verification testing of AD2182 DSP firmware in assembler
for V.32/V.34 and V.90 modems complying with TSB 37A/38. Led pre-homologation
testing for modem products prior to external lab certification for foreign
countries including adjusting firmware data as needed to complie. Developed
POST firmware (C and x86 asm) using Phar Lap extended memory manager for Tier
1 customer. ___________________________ StorageTek/Amperif
Corporation, Bloomfield, CO/Chatsworth, CA Sr. Engineer
8/1985 –
8/1994 Developed HW
diagnostics fin C or IBM-Block Multiplexer (BMX) channel interface connecting
a Sequent multi-processor system and IBM mainframes. Developed new
features and sustaining of BMX channel interface card for company’s main
Disk-cache system product. IO card firmware was implemented all in 68K
assembler consisting of over 15K lines of code. BMX IO card firmware emulated
existing IBM 3380 disk and UNISYS disk cache systems. Additionally developed
board level tests in C and 29K asm for a follow-on product to replace
original Disk-cache system. Both White and Black box testing were performed
on BMX FW using ICE and Host Chanel emulators prior to live testing with
mainframe computer. Reduced product transition time from Engineering to Production
from 3 months to 3 days for SQL database engine product that included written
procedures for system HW testing and SFW loading via magnetic tape. Led
effort starting up Configuration Management system (PVCS) for all engineering
FW. Technical Summary Telcom -
